Q - First off, what is Board Up Miami? I don’t think a lot of people know about that event.
A - It’s a very hot event they have down in Miami. This is the 3rd year they’ve done it, and actually, every year I have won it in Junior Mens! It’s a good event that has amateurs and pros together, so it is a fun event.
Q – Tell me about the victory this year, because you won the Junior Mens as well as the Pro Mens.
A - So because I won on Friday in the Junior Mens, I got put into the Pro Mens division with Phillip and Robert Soven, me, Danny Thollander, and Shawn Watson, all in my heat. I won that, and that was cool for sure. Then the next round I barely made it through by getting third in that heat. Then in the finals we decided we would split the pot even so we could put on a good show for the crowd and not have to take it so seriously, and I won!
Q - Jimmy, you are a super mellow guy, do you even get jitters before you ride?
A - This contest was a little different. I get jitters when guys are out there landing difficult tricks ahead of me. But the passes I have been doing have been ones I have been working on all winter. So it is not so much jitters or nervousness to compete in front of people, rather it is seeing someone land a trick ahead of me and know I have to land a back 7.
Q - What kind of set up are you riding for this year?
A - I’m on that Sub 6! It has been working out great for me. It gives me the pop I need. It is so light that it makes it easy.
Q - You have always been a big fan of the Premier – you’ve ridden that for a while. Obviously you have found something in the Sub 6, so tell me what you like about it?
A - With the Sub 6, I really like the lightness to it and the strength to it. I like the speed it has to it: enough to go really big, but also you can keep it slower to go wake to wake. It is prefect for me because I like to keep it technical and go wake to wake, but I also like to edge into the wake hard sometimes and take it into the flats, so it is great for me.
