It all came together over this past weekend in Reno, Nevada at the Sparks Marina. This was the host site of the 2007 RockStar Energy WWA Wakeboard World Championships and conditions couldn’t be any better. Competitors of all ages came from around the world to compete in this event having previously qualified through the WWA Air Nautiques National Championship and other avenues of entry. However, this event the biggest of the year in the essence of bragging rights. This was the WORLD Championship and everyone wants to carry that title for the next 12-months in their respective divisions.
It was hot and dry over the weekend and the competition was heated as well. Team Hyperlite left a strong mark at all levels of competition. Jacob Valdez out of Southern California took 2nd place podium finish in the boys division. Valdez will be moving to Jr. Men next year, while he is one of the riders that everyone is watching as he consistently displays a huge array of talent on the water. Jr. Men Division upcoming new rider Josh Chabator claimed the 4th spot while JX Pro Tour Champ, AJ Racinelli took 3rd and Masters Champion, Jimmy LaRiche finished up the year with a 2nd Place finish. Look to possibly see both Jimmy and AJ moving up to the pros for the 08’ season. Brian Grubb had an amazing run in the semi’s round, but could not quite put it all together in the finals. Grubb finished the event with a 4th place spot. It was with the big boys this weekend that created excitement. The entire Pro Hyperlite Team advanced to the semi’s forcing the Riders to compete and eliminate each other, this was because only the winner of the heat would advanced to the finals. Team Hyperlite represented 3 of the 5 riders in the finals. Finally after the dust settled and the way it panned out at the end was veteran Erik Ruck finished strong with a 4th place podium spot, Rusty Malinoski taking 3rd next to JD Webb claiming the number 2 spot in the world. Congratulations to all Hyperlite Riders for an outstanding job at the World Championships this past weekend. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
